What a great year consisting of lots of twists and turns. Who do we think disapointed the most.
Schumacher - Was apparently going to show the young whipper snappers how to drive and at least beat his teammate Rosberg. Came close to a podium but his mistake at the weekend just summed the guy up - Retirement or pay as you perform?
Massa - Was in the same car as Alonso but could not compete or get anywhere near him. Did the now infamous call to move over break him?
Lewis - One too many mistakes again that techincally cost him a chance at the title.
Alonso - As above, a number of mistakes earlier in the season and letting Button jump him in Abu Dhabi cost him the title
Button - Tyre management and clever calls may win you the odd race but there is something missing in his armour.
Williams - Beat Force India by two points. Is this something to be proud of?

Interesting that only one of the drivers is referred to by his forename? On balance, it's probably "our Lewis" for me.
- I didn't have any expectations for Williams so they haven't disappointed
- I think Button did better than many (me included) expected him to
- it was always going to be interesting to see how Schumacher got on rather than having high hopes for him
- I'm perhaps more disappointed for Massa than disappointed in him
- taking the year as whole it's difficult to be disappointed with Alonso's performance.
I'd hoped that another year of maturing, and of seeing what F1 is like when your car isn't at least equal best in the field, might have seen Lewis drive a bit smarter, but it doesn't seem to have happened. Hopefully he'll improve next year.

Schumacher without question.
Yes, the car probably wasn't up to it/didn't suit him, but I've never seen him so comprehensively out-performed by a team-mate and so amateur-ish in some performances.
The rest you could argue disappointed a little, but almost never was so much expected and so little delivered.
Remember the start of the season?
"He'll be on the podium in the first few races, then back winning"
"Give him 3 races and he'll be winning again"
Yeah, right....

I know this is the wrong thread for it, but I just wanted to say how much better Button performed that I expected. Went into Hamilton's team and really held his own against him, sure he finished quite a few points behind but he still did a great job. Now if he could only stop his whining

Just need to point out that of all the drivers on the grid, Schumacher throughout the season has made up the most positions at the start/first lap of a race. Therefore rather than summing Schumacher up yesterdays mistake was an isolated incident.Schumacher - Was apparently going to show the young whipper snappers how to drive and at least beat his teammate Rosberg. As for Schumacher coming back blow the young whippersnappers away, I don't think that he himself ever said that.
Massa was my choice, while they others fell short of their potential they were not far away from their natural order (IMO)
Sure Shumi was never going to come back and win right off, but his achievement has been respectable. Alonso, Lewis and Jenson all were right up at the top right until the last race or two... Williams under performed but I didnt expect any better from them, their glory days are long behind them (but not gone forever I hope)
It's Massa who has properly under performed, I've been wishing him a WDC based on the amazing support he provided Shumi, and when Shumi retired it was Massa's best chance to get a WDC under his belt, he missed out narrowly but just hasnt been in the fight since leaving Webber as the plucky underdog.

voted Massa as it appears he's lost his mojo this season and been totally dominated.
My thoughts on the others:
Schumacher - no surprise he was up to his old tricks, and maybe equal team status for once has added some perspective
Hamilton - made the best of the equipment, and errors of judgement leading to DNFs were at least errors made while racing hard
Alonso - disappointed yesterday but that was strategy so a team issue, and he has driven a great season overall
Button - Entered the lion's den of a team built around LH yet emerges close in total points having won races, led the WDC etc. Good first season in the team
Williams - not many other mid-field teams scored a pole. I'd like to see them higher, but lacking funding?

That's as may be, but it's difficult to make up a lot of places at the start/first lap if you are already at the front of the grid!Lambochick said:

If Schumacher fans are deluded, then you are equally biased the other way - as we all know of course.
The answer would depend on in what sense one meant "disappointment".
Those of us who do not care for Schumacher were not unhappy to see him fail at every point to be a factor - that was not disappointing. Furthermore, many of us were not surprised by his results - both because 3 years away, at his age, was always going to have been a long time, and because Brawn's dominance last year seemed to require more unrepeatable good luck than many supposed.
I'd say that the biggest disappointment was Vettel. When one considers the car advantage that he and Webber had over everyone else, and the reputation that he had coming into this season, one would have expected him to have wrapped up the WDC several races ago, instead of winning it only because in the ultimate race his teammate screwed up in qualifying and his other chief rival's team made a disastrous tactical decision.
Vettel made at least 2 egregious driving errors this year, in both cases destroying both his own car and that of a major competitor. The guy is immensely talented, and winning the title takes a lot of great driving, but, amongst the top 6, perhaps his performance was the farthest short of what it could have been.

Webber crashing out in Korea, completely his own fault and ruined his championship chances at a stage when he was looking so good. I really wanted him to win this year. Still he helped make the year great.
But I also cannot get over how badly Ferrari screwed up in yesterdays race, the title was there for the taking. With the millions they spend surely they could have run a better strategy than that.
