Both as bad as each other on the telly but Legard has to be the worst overall. At least Allen has a lot of knowledge and is very respected off the telly, cant say the same about Legtard..

Never had a huge problem with Allen but Jonathan Legard is atrocious!

Allen was worse by far. His vocal manner made you simultaneously retch and cringe while your ears bled. Legard makes more mistakes, but at least his voice is bearable.

Saying that, Allen's blog is excellent.

I think James Allen is really good; for all the comments on here, his blog is first class and he clearly knows his stuff.

It's easy to bash to people I think he was employed by ITV1 to fulfill that role to Brundle's quiet demeanour.

OK he may talk a load of st half the time, and make loads of mistakes, but then so did MW and everybody, except me it seemed, liked him !

Agreed: Crofty would be an excellent replacement but lets face it, its not gonna happen until a convenient time contract wise is it.

People should be careful what they wish for.

All the calls for 'Crofty' could come back to haunt.

I think he could get just as annoying to those of an irritable disposition (like many on here appear to be).

I think Crofty has a touch of the 'Smashy and Nicey' about him

Allen is fantastic to read...but his irritating vocal manner made me watch races with the volume off. Which is no fun.

Legard is a prat but I enjoy listening to Brundle correcting him and occasionally failing to fully mask the exasperation in his voice. It almost makes it worth it.

So based on the fact that I missed out on the engine noises with Allen, I would say he's worse as a race commentator.
