Petrov retains Renault seat

Vitaly Petrov has signed a two-year deal at Lotus Renault, according to F1 Racing's James Roberts on Twitter.
Guess the money he brings outweighed the 2010 performance then.

Glad to see this. Yes, at times he was poor but what's the use in replacing a driver after 1 year with another that has to learn the ropes and could potentially be just as 'bad'? At times he was brilliant (Abu Dhabi) so I think he's going to do well.

I agree, good to see him given his chance. He has a lot of potential, but he really needs to prove himself next season.

Yeah, you've got a good point. He has had some good drives, but he's also had some pretty lame showings and scored hardly any points compared to Kubica. I wondered if Hulkenberg might have been on Renault's radar, but it seems not.

Petrov has struggled more with the lack of Testing and inexperience.
He's got load's of russian money behind him what has probably saved him

But if Hulkenburg has a Williams pole position and is dropped anything can happen.

What on earth possessed them to hack about a 2001 Prost to pre 1998 wide-track specifications, whack random bits of bodywork on it,plonk a V6 engine in it and paint it in 2010 Renault colours?

I thought they might give him another chance to prove himself, but the 2 year deal is a bit of a surprise.

F1 is a funny thing. Some folks jump in and are 'on it'. Lewis, Alonso, Schumacher, and, if you remember, Button.

Some have to 'warm up'. Prost, all three Hills, etc.

Many teams, given the testing ban, choose the, "Would you like a brazillion dollars Mr Manager?" route.

But the two year deal is unusual - look out for something more than "Snoras" on the car for next year

He ought to be a better driver next year too.
