First the Germans said they'd be doing it, then the Aussies, now FOM have announced that everyone who broadcasts F1 will be offered the HD feed

Will it still be a stereo broadcast though? It would be good if the commentary came through the center channel and in onboard shots we had the engine out the rear speakers. Doubt it'll happen though.

Yes! http://www.freeview.co.uk/HD

No!!! "Freeview HD available: 28 September 2011" (for our postcode)

Nuts! Oh well, won't go rushing out to purchase a Freeview HD box then.

It will be a proper 1080i HD broadcast. The regular SD broadcast will be downscaled from the HD feed, so even the SD broadcast should look better than before.

Right then people. Talk to me. I've just binned off Sky as I don't watch anything. Definitely not interested in paying for SkyHD.

So if I plugged a FreesatHD box into my sky dish that would give me F1 in HD?

If I got a FreeviewHD box, that would give me F1 in HD?

Although I am excited, it better not just be like watching football in HD on Sky (exactly the same as SD)

Dolby pro-logic does do a very good job of this.

I think you need a Freesat dish to go along with your Freesat box for you to get it to work that way Paul

Yes if you got a FreeviewHD box that should all work ok!

I belive it will - thats the route I'm going down as well.
You need two feeds from tne disc to the HD box.
When I had a look around thats what I found out, hope it's right!

ETA - You can use your Sky dish and LNB.

This is awesome news. Lego gone, pictures in HD, win win all round. I wonder if you click red button whether it will remain in HD?

We did the same - binned Sky and installed a Freesat HD box (A Humax thing with hard drive). Not many HD channels but you do get BBC1 HD, BBC HD and ITV1 HD.

Freeview HD would get you the same HD channels. We can't as our Freeview doesn't go HD till 2012!

Beware that Sky will keep calling you trying to drag you back in. frown

No need - his Sky dish will work fine - Freesat uses the same satellites (just fewer channels to choose from).
