Silverstone 24hr Race?

After watching the Top Gear episode where they were doing the Britcar 24hr in their BMW, is it worth going to watch the 24hr race? I've never been before, but some of the cars that were also going round were very interesting, though when they showed the stand it was pretty much empty.

I've attended the Brticar 24hrs (inc 2yrs ago when it was shorter) pretty much since it's start and can confirm it's well worth attending.
The weather can be a bit shoddy at that time of year though, and Silverstone is windswept even at the height of summer, so pack a decent coat.
There's a good paddock atmosphere and you can watch through the back of the pits at the teams rushing to fix their cars.
It gets dark early so even if you are making a daytrip of it you can still see the night-time racing.

Thanks!And as above, is it only certain people allowed behind the pits etc or can general public have a look? 24 hours of sitting in the same place must get slightly tedious?

May I first say that for my first ever visit to a Britcar event that it was one of the best ever experiences I have ever had and will now be making sure I keep an eye on your calendar so as to be able to attend a few more. The access for none professional photographers and motorsport nuts like myself is out of this world and the friendliness of the spectators, staff and team members was a joy and made the event have an atmosphere more like a family gathering than any other event either two or four wheeled that I have ever been to. I have posted several pictures on your site and would just like to offer that if you wanted to use any then drop us an e-mail and will send the original files on to yourselves as a way of saying thank you for such a wonderful weekend as after working in a garage all week it is a pleasure to be able to attend events like yours.

What I was wondering, at Silverstone, what are the camping facilites like, how much are they, and how do we book these. If we don't take the campsite option, can we sleep in the car in the car park.
Also, what are the facilities like for food, drink etc, can we easily go off the track to get these.
Sorry if these questions seem silly, but am a newbe @ this, and it is easier to find out this information re Le Mans

I'v done both sleeping in the car and the campsite. But for the better experience and convenience you cannot beat the campsite, even if it did get very messy last year. You pay per pitch which I think costs about £40-£50 per tent. I seem to recall it was £50 per vehicle. even if there is 4 people & 4 tents and only one vehicle.White rabbit run the camp and have a link on the Britcar website.
