Guys,

Posted this in the travel section, but no one has replied??

"Is there really no one else on here going to Sweden for the WRC then?

Cant believe I am that sad a rally fan, to be the only one???

Perhaps no one wants to admit to going?

Or perhaps no one wants to meet up with me there for fear of the shame of admitting to being a rally boy!!

Oh well, means more fun with the Monster Promo Girls for me and Paul then!!

I like rallying, do some work in it. I wouldn't say I'm a "hardcore" fan though, prefer circuit racing.

Mike,

Thanks, its a brave man who admits to it on PH I am starting to feel!!

As I said its just an excuse to watch fast cars in the Snow, stay away and get piZZed with your mates and generally have a fun car related weekend!!

Been doing it for over 20 years now, some of my best memories are from trips to various country's for WRC events!!

BYTW, we don't get to see that many cars, if you know what I mean!!

We normally end up here:

car in forests in Nov/Dec too much for me nowadays

Would love to go to a european round of WRC as long as its bit warmer

especially with all new cars this year

I'd like to go to one with no responsibilities so I could just have a laugh with mates!

Id love to go, sadly though when Im off to Sweden it'll be mid march and im based in North Sweden - tis colder there! winkbiggrin

I keep saying that I'll make it to a overseas event at some point. I always wanted to go to corsica, alas its not there anymore frown. I doubt I get to anything this year, but next year is promising. Rallying is alot more fun watching live than going to an F1 race or circuit racing - as much as I love driving and racing myself I do find watching on the sideline abit tedious sometimes.

Hope you have fun out there!

Top Gear rally report from the mid eighties, is one of the things which got me into cars in the first place, I do like rallying some what! Having said that if I didn't have the cash flow issues that I have Sweden is still a fair way down my list of must see events.

I really want to spectate on Corsica and the Monte and yes I do realise that they are IRC rather than WRC events.

Its the cold that makes it fun, and the mega drunk Scandinavians!!

Although some of the welsh fans and ladies from the valleys can get pretty close in the drunken stakes, on a night out in Cardiff on the week of the rally!!

I went to the Perth WRC rally once, absolutely fantastic. and experienced those infamous round stones on the road, hellishly slippery.

Really? Is there enough snow for a snow rally?

Plenty... lots of nice frozen lakes as well. I went snowmobiling with a bunch of Finns as well.. awesome fun, and they were quite surprised that a Brit kept up with them (although I was at the back) smile

Because it isnt really rallying anymore. The sport has been stripped of its stars, its panache, its style and USP.

Nobody has ever said "You know what, I really want a Citreon C4!"

Get some decent regs, some proper cars back in and the sport will look after itself. Let it continue in the small beer mediocrity in which it now resides and it will only sink further into the mire.

a very fair point indeed.

We noticed a decline in the quality of cars, commentary and everything about 7 years ago, and its only got worse each year.

Just look at the coverage WRC now gets on Dave, 1 hour max, its pathetic, when you consider it ( USED!) to be the worlds biggest attended spectator event!!

But then we said to ourselves, what else could we have as an excuse for a long weekend away with your mates, watching cars and drinking beers, whilst having a proper laugh at really stupid things!! But who cares, its a good reason to get away with permission from the Missus and the kids are young enough not to worry too much about Daddy being away for 3 days!!

We just went for it,and hope to do so for many years too!!!

I think your right.

In the past I have marshalled on a coupe of RAC rallies, been a spectator on a few and even been a spanner man on one.
But they were the proper RAC Rallies not the Rally Around Cardiff that it has become.
Without Grizdale/Kielder etc. The RAC will never, in my mind, be a proper RAC.
As to the cars they use these days, well least said the better.
But I will echo DJC's thoughts - Citroen C4 or Audi Quattro ????
