Sorry if this has already been posted but just a heads up. BBC 2 are showing an hour long documentary on Graham Hill at 7pm tonight (sunday). Should be interesting.

It is a repost http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... but worth watching.

Cheers. It was well worth posting in here as hardly anybody's going to see it in the TV section! I've seen it before but it's a great doc, will watch it again.

Just watched it on iPlayer. Great doc', preferred the James Hunt one though (ITV I think).

I have a bone to pick. At the end Mrs Graham Hill says she is the only person to have a World Champion Husband and Son. I think Mrs Gilles Villeneuve would disagree.

No he wasn't.

Of course, 1982, arguably, should have been Gilles' year...

Then to McLaren for '83...

And arguably, 1979. But he obeyed Enzo and stayed behind Jody.

Call yourself a Petrolhead.

To the back of the class please and write 100 times - "Graham Hill and Damon Hill are the only ever Father and Son World Drivers' Champions"

I've a very very good excuse. I wasn't even a twinkle in my fathers eye in 1982.

Sorry - no excuse for a true follower of motor sport.

Shame they did not mention the name of the young driver that motor sport also lost in that plane crash.
For in Tony Brise we may well had another champion in the making.

Personell aboard Graham Hill's plane were: Hill, team manager Ray Brimble, mechanics Tony Alcock and Terry Richards, up-and-coming driver Tony Brise and designer Andy Smallman; all from the Embassy Hill team.

Dunit, you make a very good point.
GH was supporting Tony, giving him the drive because GH knew how difficult it was to get into racing.

I liked the prog. But it did have a lot of 'wrong' bits in it. But what do you expect from the maker!

According to Stewart Hill would often urge him to promote safety in the sport, he always supported Stewart but was never the one to speak out, stiff upper lip stuff I suppose.

From what I can work out after Graham died by the time everything was paid off Bette was broke, she had to sell the house.
Damon went on to be a bike courier in London and did a spot of racing, Bette didn't want him racing bikes so paid for some car tuition. George Harrison was a good friend of Grahams and stumped up a large amount of cash so Damon could get started in his racing career.

Whenever I see 60s footage I'm amazed more spectators were not killed - anyone catch the guy crouched on the other side of the road just after the hairpin at monaco ?

Monaco was nothing. Try Mexico!
