At first glance it does sounds a little bit of a piss-take...but it would add excitement to the races.

Would it make it more dangerous? I'm not sure. But do you think the H&S would sign it off?

Not to mention the costs involved of 'wetting' an entire race track for 20 minutes. That's got to make a fair old dent in the pocket for what is realistically 20 mins a year?!

If the race is wet from start to finish it won't much different, just slower. Its when there are sudden downpours that it gets interesting, but that would bring a whole new era of race fixing law suits.

just turning the sprinklers on, especially with a 2 minute warning, just means everyone will dash (or splash...) round to the pits line astern when they know it is going to get wet, doesn't add anything other than the randomness of someone hitting standing water or misjudging things. What rain 'adds' when it happens, particularly when it starts wet and dries or starts dry and rains is unpredictability and judgement (together with luck).

I'd say give the Pirelli's a few races before even bringing up any other ideas.

But as for his sodding medals he still seems obsessed about Before long you'd lose 2/3 of the grid through lack of interest (sponsors and team backers need those points for 9th or 10th place or they will walk) - which may play into Luca's hands with his wish for 3 (or 30...) Ferarri's....

Quite. There's an easier solution than making rain.

Why give them specific warning? Why not just fake a cloud on the radar and let the teams decide if it looks like a raincloud?

Just make the tyres less grippy and less hard-wearing for all conditions (and reduce reliance on aero) rather than messing around with fake rain.

I think it sounds like a brilliant idea.

You'd have to have a pre-agreed time that it would happen that only the top men know and then have it happen then no matter whats happening on track.
