Not sure the new rules have changed much, its still Citroen at the front with the Fords miles behind.

Ford are just clutching at straws because the years first gravel event shows that Citroen still dominate after all.

Its a clear breach of rules, the wrc is kiling the whole sport of rallying which is much more than just driving flat out down a stage.

Anyway Ogier has crashed again and is out, karma maybe?

Nowadays it's not who can drive the best it's who has the best machine.
The FIA has done it's best to kill the sport and this does not surprise me.
They need more factory teams back.
More power and proper stages.

The old Ford vs Citroen game is getting old.

Classic rallying is where its at for me now... in a months time I'll be freezing my nuts off in a forest at night watching Ari Vatanen pedalling a Mk2 Escort.

Should have been at the Mid Wales Stages yesterday - fantastic action!! The top boys are really on it....Historics are the best action in Rallying at the moment.
Agree with earlier points though - the WRC needs more marques and quickly - Ford v Citroen has become so tiresome, and so have the off stage arguments. It's all a bit 'small-time'.
I hope that the VW rumours are indeed true - they have the finance and resources to blow both Citroen and Ford out the water.
Rally Mexico had about 25 starters - that just ridicuous - and the time gaps in the top 10 was just embarassing.

Mini will be joining, and possibly VW/Skoda in the future. You can't expect everyone to jump on board in the first year, that goes for touring cars too.

Day 3 coverage on Motors TV was **** poor today. The voice over guy just gave up and quit after about 10 minutes This happened a few times last season too, very amateurish

I tried to watch the highlights tonight but I got bored.

The cars are amazing, the drivers are amazing, the terrain is amazing;

So why isnt it amazing?

I cant work it out. Its just not interesting or exciting. Are the cars and drivers too good?

Watching footage from the 70s and 80s usually makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. BDA, Stratos, Mirafiori, Mini, Manta, RS200 etc etc.

Whats gone wrong?

All those cars you just listed are different in more ways than one. New regs make WRC cars even more identicle. There are no different classes and thus no entertaining david and goliath stage times. IMO.

at the moment the problem is the TV coverage. I thought the cars looked good, the drivers are good, and some more variety is due in over the next couple of years.

However TV coverage is dire, not just the fact that is tucked away on a ppv channel, but the editing, camera angles, corners filmed are all wrong imho.

It needs a Barrie Hinchcliffe type person to exec produce it and make the show much better. And also a 30 mins highlights package would make a world of difference rather than rehash of the days stages, and finally , not that this is the tv production company's fault, but the events need to be longer, or stop with the cloverleaf format.

I think it's partly the cars, but mainly the TV coverage which makes it boring. There are very few shots where you can see the cars actually being driven. The in car shots give you very little idea what the car is actually doing, though in truth they don't seem to be doing that much, just sticking to the line like glue. When they show clips from the side of the stage, they concentrate on the jumps, which frankly don't do anything for me.

As posted above, Historics are where it's at these days, proper cars that move about and sound like cars should and not angry Bee's, David Winstanley's coverage on Motors, with I expect about a hundredth of the budget, is more interesting than the WRC coverage too.
