Time to bring back proper testing sessions?

What are peoples thoughts on this?

It seems teams are now coming to races "not race ready".

It also takes some of the spectical away- teams like the Macs' need to innovative, and innovation needs practice time to bed in?

Also Friday sessions seem to be full of the B-list drivers..

Teams are coming to weekends not race ready? I haven't seen that, except maybe with Hispania at the beginning of last year and even so, they managed to race. Plus they didn't take advantage of the testing that was available to them, so more wouldn't have helped.

It is one of the very few disciplines in which a team cannot test. Privateer motorsport entrants are entitled to test at open days at circuits, track days and other more specifically organised events. It does seem odd that at the pinnacle of the sport (allegedly) there is no in season testing allowed.

In my view there should be some testing allowed, although I can see the logic for some restrictions. It would seem to be logical to have a one or two day test at the circuits on which races have taken place on the Monday and Tuesday following the race to save costs, but allow some more unusual developments to be tested, thus encouraging innovation which is essential for F1 to maintain the position it has.

totally agree with Andy. 1 or half day running on the Thursday at some events (2 week gaps) would make perfect sense.
or better still, bring back the Silverstone 3 day tests.

It was always the best way to get up and close to F1.

Keep it as it is.

It has worked really well. My biggest fear was going to Monza with an untested and extreme aero package but there's been no problems.

In 2009 McLaren improved their car to win races, Force India had a good low downforce package mid-season.

The only major bad thing is no testing at Silverstone!

Pretty much all of what you have wriiten there is complete rubbish.

Apart from Hispania (who are a joke!) every team has been ready and theres only been a 2 or 3 test drivers used in Friday practice, 1 of which earnt himself a full time drive.

I do miss the day out at Silverstone though, I used to love it when there was a single car out on track and you pin point exactly where it was on the circuit!

I disagree and im a Ferrari fan years ago you would get the likes of Ferrari testing for ever spending millions on development and more and more testing, they had an advantage. Now its a bit more even. Its nobodys fault but McLarens that they missed the first test Ferrari, RedBull etc... had the new cars ready in time leave it alone.
