"Infiniti" - Nissan have no connection with F1.

"Lotus" - except the team is named Renault.

Australian GP - "Lexus" everywhere - Toyota are long gone from F1.

Toro Rosso - "STR Ferrari" - ??

"Kingfisher" - Force India Mercedes

Seems all very odd to me! I thought the idea was to "race on Sunday, sell on Monday"!

Not that strange;
It's been a very very long time since "race on Sunday, sell on Monday" was a valid and rather naive reason just to be in motorsports (or any sport for that matter).

Infiniti are part of Nissan, which Renault own a considerable percentage.

Torro Rosso. = Scuderia Torro Rosso Ferrari.

Kingfisher is an Indian Beer.

...owned by Vijay Mallya, coincidentally the owner of Force India.

What surprised me was the huge amaounts of Pirelli signage around the circuit - they certainly want to make the most of their re-entry into F1.

Infiniti is the new/rebranded customer Renault engine. Nothing to do with Nissan, other than Renault owns 40% of Nissan

"Lotus" - except the team is named Renault.

ongoing legal issues over who can call themselves Lotus. Renault for simplicity and they are still the chassis designer and also (indirectly) one of the main sponsors

Australian GP - "Lexus" everywhere - Toyota are long gone from F1.

fk knows !

Toro Rosso - "STR Ferrari" - ??

Scuderia Torro Rosso-Ferrari customer engined, red bull sponsored Ferrari chassis cast off

"Kingfisher" - Force India Mercedes

Mercedes customer engine and very good team curries

Seems all very odd to me! I thought the idea was to "race on Sunday, sell on Monday"!
I think! smile

Lada is a owned by VAZ automotive, which is itself a 75% Russian govmnt owned concern. The other 25% of VAZ is owned by Renault.

They are already in Europe. They have a showroom in Sofia, if I recall, as well that big lounge type showroom in the UK.

Pirelli probably got more exposure from this 1 GP, than the whole of the last 3 seasons in the WRC, as the sole tyre supplier....

Outside of America Infiniti is not that well known; they intend to start selling cars in Australia next year, and according to some reports they want to move into the European market too.
They already have a showroom on Picadilly almost opposite the Ritz, its currently got a G37 and some SUV sat in it...

Spnsorship deals seldom have anything to do with where a company might be geographically located - a global brand is happy to have their product promoted around the world and in most cases (of tech sponsors) that brand is having input into the teams worldwide operation, not just in the country of origin.

Bring back the Ciggie and booze sponsorship the cars looked great and as that was one of the few places they push their products there was lots of money to go round. Even some of the back end teams got some cigarette money.

I think it was in the early 80's when 85% of the drivers in F1 had Marlboro personal sponsorship.

You have to admit the cars looked great and the names sounded good, remember the colour schemes for:
Marlboro Mclaren
JPS Lotus
Camel Lotus
Gold Leaf Lotus
Martini Lotus
Rothmans Williams
Gitanes Ligier
Lucky Strike & 555 Double Livery BAR
Martini Brabham
Mild Seven Benetton
Warsteiner Arrows
etc etc.

And another thing why do we have to have such silly small numbers on the cars now that no one can read.

The cars used to be able to find the space on the sides and the nose without compromising the sponsors space or colours. The Lotus 79 looked very elegant with its gold number 5's on it to match the JPS colours and the Niki Lauda Ferrari's looked great with the white air box and number 11 set on them.

Before you ask no I am far from being eligible for my pension.
