Rd1 - Silverstone from #52 - Motionsport Elise
Discussion
Just a quick note to thank all of the Britcar team and fellow competitors for making us new boys feel incredibly welcome yesterday.
Despite not actually making it across the finish line, what a fantastic day! After a long build process and a big move from sprint racing (Lotus Cup, Elise Trophy etc) we were incredibly pleased to have got to the start line. Qualifying went well and the car felt incredibly good. With a view on just qualifying and not pushing too hard, we ended up 4th in class with a 2.20 and no problems at all. A steady start saw us drop a few places initially and then settle into a good rhythm as we gradually worked our way up the screens, a slick pit stop under the second safety car for a driver change and a splash of fuel saw us leap to head of the class.
My god the second hour seemed to go on for ever. The car feeling constantly good kept going and going making it easy to bang in 2.22's pretty much every lap. A bit of drama when the 1 series emptied its fluids from vale to the pits kept me alert. What a great feeling to feel like you're moving forwards in a race!
And then...sods law, the car tried to swap ends several times as the rear tyre let go and I couldn't keep it in a straight line. Seeing as I was only coming into Club, I decided that it would be far safer to get of the track and retire. 10 minutes to go and running P1!
Still, very gutted yesterday but on reflection what a great first day! A big thank you to my Motionsport team for doing a great job in a new environment. The good news is that we now know why the tyre went so hopefully we can prevent it from happening again.
See you all at Rockingham!!
