Posted this in the Australian GP thread but I think people were a bit too busy debating flexible front wings. Anyway, something about Sergio Perez's disqualification got me thinking. Has an F1 driver ever been disqualified on their debut? I wondered if he might have been the first but then I'd have thought a journalist or two might have picked up on that factoid by now. If it has happened before it couldn't have occured many times. Did have a bit of a google search on the subject but with no luck.

Anyone know the answer?

From Brundles post race column on BBC F1 website;

"I scored points in my first-ever grand prix and they were later rescinded through no fault of my own. It doesn't matter though because 27 years later it only annoys me about once a month now."

That's a great quote! I knew Tyrell were disqualified from a whole season while Brundle raced for them, didn't realise it was his first. Can anyone think of any other examples of first race disqualifications?

Kubica was also disqualified from a points position in a Sauber on his debut.

I'm reading Brundle's book at the moment and while he mentions his first point scoring race, I can't remember him mentioning being disqualified?

Anyways, reading the above quote on the BBC site made me laugh out loud.

Very dry sense of humour and someone I bet you could talk (or just listen!) to for hours!

yeah i knew a sauber driver got dq'd on his debut for being underweight after finishing in 7th but couldn't remember if it was kubi or vettel - didn't pick up enough rubber
