F1 - Electric Pit Lane?

This would seem to suggest that F1 cars will be using Kers to power them down the pit lane.

Ruining one of the best bits of noise (for me anyway).
I love the shriek of an F1 engine leaving the pit box...

that would mean a changing how Kers is currently implemented, as they are bolted to the nose of the engine crank, so the engine is turning....

But with the new hybrid turbo 4 pot engine planned for 2013 onwards it'll be a different arrangement, but still essentially a Kers system.. ?

If you read the article again, it is just a comparison to show what the new KERS will be capable of.

Nowhere does it say that it will be implemented mandatorily.

Agree with the noise - it does sound cool echoing of the pit boxes :-)

However, if you were an engineer, looking to carry the minimal amount of fuel, running purely on electric down the pit lane for 20-25 seconds would be a significant boost. They can only hit 60 anyway.

Potentially less noise may mean less stress on pit crews, easier communications, less mistakes?
