Apologies if this has been discussed at length elsewhere, but have noticed some cars are running an odd looking stepped nose while Maclaren for example appears to have a more conventional smooth setup. Is this a rule change (in which case i would have expected every car to be the same), or some team's design that has been leaked to the others badly pre season! Cant imagine that this stepped design works very well in the wind tunnel!?

It was compulsory for each team to come up with an ugly car for the 2012 season. McLaren have already been fined £1 million for failing to produce a car that fitted within the ugly template provided by the FIA.

Hope that helps smile

And yes, it was discussed at length in February when the 2012 cras began to be unveiled.

They are desperately ugly looking this year (McLaren excepted) but I'm already begining to not notice any more.

They have to have a lower nose for this year.

It's to minimise the chance of the nose entering the cockpit of another car around the driver's head area in a T-bone accident.

Luckily the internet streams are generally quite poor quality, so I can't see the ugly noses. smile
