Didn't james may or someone do a radio program about this a couple of years back?
Fairly sure the record time(and lonmans time) were around 43mins or so?
117 miles in 43 mins? average speed of 162mph.........Fairly sure the record time(and lonmans time) were around 43mins or so?

Ok - so an average speed of 156mph...... hmmmm maybe I'm being cynical, but seems a little far fetched to mehttp://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

+1I think the Formula one boys don't average much more
than 130 mph, so the idea that somebody's gone 26 mph
faster on 125 miles of M25 isn't very credible.
Makes a good pub story, though.

Wonder why his original post says it was a 146mph average? As for the comparison with F1 speeds, less hairpins on the '25 innit.
Yep. I think the idea is utterly bonkers, but it has to be said that in theory there aren't many parts of the M25 that couldn't be taken flat out if you managed to get a clear run at it. I don't honestly know what rate something like a GT2 consumes fuel at while doing 160+ mph, but you could probably just about do it without refuelling. That way the only stop would be the Dartford toll.Of course there's also The Bridge Club to consider. Severn Bridge (and back?) at huge speeds. Also possibly mythical?
ETA Maybe it doesn't even matter if there is traffic if you take to the fourth lane: http://www.streetfire.net/video/lonman_160247.htm

IIRC a motorbike mag a few years back did an article about lapping the M25 in around an hour on a variety of then new superbikes, several of them got pulled or ended up doing slower times, I think they pulled off a fast lap or two in the early hours though.
Frankly even at the dead of night you'd need to have your wits about you at 100mph+ what with the number of lorries bimbling along at 56 and drunk drivers etc.
I was abit shocked yesterday as I cruised back around the north M25 with a car full of stuff (helping someone move house) so suspension was down near the stops therefore stayed on the limit at 70mph- I spent most of it in the outside lane as everyone was driving so slowly, in "the olden days" driving at 70 meant sitting in the slow lane with the lorries while the locals passed at 80-100, apparently 70 is the new 100!!!!
