Think I might have to miss San Bernadino off - mistake?
Discussion
Planning the route for next month's Italy trip, and because we're going in towards Como and out from Garda we're not going to be near the San Bernadino pass - c. 2 hour detour to do it "there and back" on either day, or 4+ hours from Como.
Thing is, both the 'in' and 'out' days are already 8hrs of driving, plus stops (so say 9-10hrs), and we want a holiday, not an all-out do-every-hairpin road-trip.
So I just wanted to get the consensus - is the S-B pass worth it - we're already doing:-
- Fluelapass & Tiefencastel-Davos road
- Grimselpass
- Gletsch-Andermatt road (not sure what it's called)
Thanks,
M.

Thanks G-man!
Hotel - we're all booked now, cheers - doing Troyes to Como in one day.
Oberapp - is that the Rhone Glacier? If so, I've got the GPS coords already down for that one, looks well worth the short aside.
Top of the Grimsel Pass, behind the Hotel Grimselblick?? to the left there is a tiny road on a one way traffic light for 15 mins takes you to the Oberapp glazier and a road that has a 1000 metre shear drop, your missus will wet herself.Hotel - we're all booked now, cheers - doing Troyes to Como in one day.

For the best view of the Oberapp/Rhone Glacier should I be looking at the directions you've just given or stopping off by the Belvedere Hotel on the Furkapass? Driven these roads a lot never bothered looking for Glaciers.

The Panorastrasse takes you in the opposite direction to the Rhone glacier, and leads onto the oberaarsee (dam) with the oberaar glacier flowing into it at the western (far end). The base of the Rhone glacier is accessed from the Belvedere (for a small fee) and you can stroll in a very short man made tunnel inside the glacier. If you want to walk above on and around a glacier you are better off taking the Grossglockner and onto the Pasterze. Excellent road but the toll is 29 euros this year For the best view of the Oberapp/Rhone Glacier should I be looking at the directions you've just given or stopping off by the Belvedere Hotel on the Furkapass? Website of the Hotel Belvedere. (Which is very hard to find!}
Unfortunately in German, but there is a gallery page with images INSIDE the glacier, and a video of the hotel/restaurant.
