A good friend's just bought a Golf GTD, and I'm going onto LPG in my Rover 200Vi later this year, so we thought that as we'll both be running at 50+mpg (or in my case, cost equivalent), we'd do a European road trip, taking in things such as the Nurburgring, and Stelvio Pass (where Top Gear went, before that road in Romania...)
So, we'll start by getting a ferry from Newcastle to Amsterdam, and from there this is the proposed route. The route back through France is to visit some family friends at Becherel, before catching a ferry back from St. Malo, and driving back to Newcastle.

Looking to do the whole trip in a week hopefully, is this easily doable or should we allow 10 days? Can't wait for a blast around the 'Ring and down any no-limits autobahn we find.

NB: I may have a different car by the time this happens, but planning on using my current hot-hatch for now.

Any European regs we need to be aware of re. use of walkie-talkies?

Walkie talkies not a problem. That route you could quite comfortably do in 3- 4 days, if you have a week+ to spare you might like to re-think your itinary in the alps smile

may well go a little further afield, as it now turns out we may be able to get some free accommodation in the Alps (can't remember where), and could do a few more nice mountain passes...

glad to know that walky talkies are fine, as didn't want to not be able to communicate easily between the vehicles.
