Heading up tomorrow and staying at Ledgowan Lodge. Going to be having food in there tomorrow night and then heading over to Applecross in on Sunday via a whale watching tour, in the pissing rain most likely, to keep the girlfriend happy. But does anyone know what the road is called, for the satnav. Google maps is trying to take me via A890 or A896. Much appricated.

Road up looks like this http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&rls=com.mi...

Any suggestions of other roads to take would be much apprieciated. Going up for 2 nights, in no rush to come back on monday so might go to John O'Groats to say iv done it.

I think that is the road name, or it's The Pass of the Cattle in English. Just added it to the end of your route anyway http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=pa1&daddr=...

TBH I'd miss JoG unless it's a must do for you as it's crap. Just keep heading up the west coast past Ullapool & Scourie, that's where the best bits are.

A890 goes from Achnasheen/Ledgowan Lodge (great place, last time I was there anyway, old world but good with it, fantastic old toilet in the en-bathroom!) to A87 at Kirkton for Kyle of Lochalsh or Invergarry, keep straight on to Lochcarron at the junction, which is a left turn (the only one between Achnasheen and Lochcarron) and it becomes the A986.
Follow thw A986 through Lochcarron and it takes you to the junction wth the unclassified/un-numbered road to Applecross.

Putting Applecross into a sat-nav should take you on the only road to it.
Only options being the long way round by the coast or over the Bealach.
