Due to various incidents and some extra time today I used the 'old road' from Taunton to Barnstaple.

Despite being 9am it was virtually empty - no trucks or tractors, and what great memories it brought back! Lots of it really fast, good mix of corners but with good visibility, some great scenery - what a pleasure to make progress on a nearly forgotten once major road.

Try it if you get chance.

There are some very good B roads in that area, with plenty of places to over take! Might have to go up there tomorrow morning now wink

I've done the Bampton to Wivey section a few times when coming back to Watchet from Okehampton. Haven't done it for a while but I certainly remember it being pretty quiet.

My personal favourite is the B3224, between Bishop's Lydeard and Wheddon Cross. Regularly do (part of) that on my way home from work. Avoid at the moment though, new loose chippings on the Lydeard end wink

used to do loads that way in a T5 transporter delivering laundry to minehead and surrounding area.

some of them are a bit narrow if you don't know your way properly!
