600-800 miles round trip from Swindon... Where to go?
Discussion
Just planned what looks like a nice little route through the South West, taking in Wiltshire, Devon, Cornwall and Dorset; but I'm wondering if that's where I should really focus my attention... Any suggestions for better places to go, or perhaps even good routes along what I'm already thinking? Would I perhaps be better spending my time in Wales?
Try Herefordshire especially around the south of the county perhaps also just over into Powys and Hay-On-Wye. Herefordshire is a forgotten county to many and that makes it all the more interesting to visit in the car.
I grew up in that part of the world. Roads are usually quiet and speed cameras very rare.
On the way out, or way back, the road from Monmouth to Chepstow is a good one. It follows the river Wye and is exceptionally pretty at this time of year.

^^ agree with hwp
Perhaps come in via Chepstow - over the top to Monmouth - old road up to Hereford>
Thro the city and pick up the Fownhope road B4224 >>> Ross on Wye and then back down to Monmouth and down the Wye Valley via Tintern.
There's always the other 'over the top' road via Trellech. Nice pub at trellech as well tho rather small.
