Route from Aachen to Ulm ?
Discussion
My usual route would be
Aachen
A4 to Koln
A3 to Limburg
A3 to Frankfurt
A5 to Karlsruhe
A8 to Ulm
I know to avoid the speed limited A61 on the west bank of the Rhine, but I was thinking of giving the following route a go
Aachen
A4 to Koln
A4 to Olpe
A45 to Hanau
A3 to Wurzburg
A7 to Ulm
Looks a bit longer, but is it speed limited and / or packed with lorries ?

Can't comment on the rest, but I used to drive the A3 Frankfurt - Würzburg - A7 - Ulm quite often. The A3 is generally well congested, but the A7 bit between Würzburg and Ulm is low congested and mostly unrestricted.
proof, proof
You could drive your traditional route, but not turn on the A5 at Frankfurt, but on the A7 at Würzburg. Worth a try imho.

I gave it a go, and it was lovely.
Ok the A45 is only two lane, so I didn't get over 130 mph, but I'll be using that route again.
So much less grief than the congested A3.
