Hi chaps,

I am trying to sketch out a rough itinery for a road trip to present to a few folks and drum up some interest. My idea was a 4-5 night trip from calais to switzerland, italian lakes, alps etc. and back. The top priority is great driving roads and we are predominantly in 911s so will give stelvio a miss.

Does anyone have any ideas or must see routes or even whole itineries/routes of their own that they could share to help out ?

Drving down from calais I wanted to try something interesting rather than the normal Reims, Bescacon route. I was thinking of heading for Annecy as i remember the drive to there being pretty amazing roads. After that maybe heading for interlaken and andermatt hitting some of teh swiss passes and then down to the italian lakes and then a different and interesting route back.

From Interlaken, the Grimsel pass is awesome, and the San Bernadino pass is amazing (notably the downhill side heading south).

The Vosges mountains around Colmar are stunning and have many well-surfaced passes with great visibility. The Schlumpf collection in Mulhouse is a must-see; the Alsace area in general is utterly charming and brimming with motor history.

There are great roads in the Black Forest...the B500 from Baden-Baden winds its way north-south and could have been built for a 911.

I have Tomtom itn files from a trip I did to the Swiss Alps and Italian lakes...

thanks guys

ive started to mock up a route of sorts using recommended routes through the vosges, black mountains and swiss passes. decdied to include stelvio and then add in some of austria and finish up at the porsche museum in stuttgart

Can anyone critique or add/change anything for the better. I am fairly happy about vosges and black mountains as I have blended all the best routes recommended on here and elswhere. The stretch after stelvio through austria to stuttgart I am completely unsure about as i only have one recommended road there (the bit north of Imst)

Also not sure whether to just head east from Andermett to Bonaduz and then head south to Malojapass ... i did it the way I have done in order to do the San Bernardino Pass.

My other option is to spend a bit of time at one of the lakes and then head back up to st. moritz/stelvio ?

Hi,
From Maloja drive further down the valley to Chiavenna, then up the Spluga/Spluegen pass to Spluegen where you rejoin the road to S.Bernardino, some cracking tight bends, BUT careful in the tunnels of the Spluga.....
As my wife still lives in Kempten-Germany give us a PM, so we can have a drink, there are some very exiting roads in Northern Austria from Kempten to round-up your trip:-))
Good luck.
