Alright guys, I have a few hours tomorrow morning free and I'm considering heading over to North Wales from Liverpool.

Does anyone know where to start, and where's the shortest distance into Wales? I'm looking to visit the Evo Triangle.

Get to MOLD
Take the A541 to Denbigh
A543 Lon Llewellyn which'll take you to the top of the triangle
Turn left on to the B4501 past Llyn Brenig >> Cerrigydrudion
On the A5 - go south east to rejoin B4501 and turn right for Bala.
At the A4212 turn right away from Bala
Potential for nice lake shots at Llyn Celyn
West of the lake is the B4391 - turn right on to that
Google Link http://maps.google.co.uk/?ll=52.959749,-3.865138&a...
Turn right on to B4407 back to the A5 and do the A543 part of the triangle not done before.

If you still have time - get lost.
ie just point and drive and see what you can find
The best roads seem to be the ones we find accidentally
or
do the triangle in one go

Enjoy smile

How about the other way - Wales to Liverpool - is there a better route than this one?

Good start but at Beulah turn left onto B4358 rather than continue to Builth (altho that in itself is a nice little run)
At Newbridge you have a choice - right and then left back on same road toward Llanyre
Left thru Llanyre and as exiting 30mph turn right on to Gravel Road to A44 and right for Crossgates and continue up A483 to Newtown.
Whilst the A483 is a lovely road so many people know this and you're scuppered in many instances if granny has chosen the same day to take a trip in to the big city (Newtown wink)

Newbridge - or turn left on to A470 up to Rhayader and on up to Llangurig.
Turn right at roundabout but it's still the A470 >>>> Newtown.
Busy in mid Waleian terms but an okay road.

I would try to avoid Newtown as it's something of a bottleneck nowadays so
if you do go up the A483 at Dolfor (4miles shy of Newtown) turn right for Kerry. It's a decent white road (no number) tho fairly narrow and will take you to the A489. Either left for Newtown (northern side so traffic reduced) or right to go thru Kerry.
Other side of Kerry and turn left on to B4368 for Abermule and then re-join A483 there

Of course, if you fancy some good Salopian roads there is another way biggrin

No there is not. It's dominated by tractors and dawdlers wink

that should put off outsiders

Cheers for that smile Changed my route to go via the B4358 because from its name alone it sounds like an interesting road.

I'm going on a weekday afternoon so will stick with the route through Newton, as I am (a little bit) on a schedule!

Just had a squint at the route, and concur that taking the 4358 is a Great Decision yes

You'll love it.

I loved it so much last time (driving from visiting family in Swansea back to Salop), that shortly after I joined the A470 North I got a speeding ticket!

And, for the most part, decent weather, maybe? i know we were fogbound over in my corner but know that Newtown and Llan'dod were bathed in glorious sunshine

Btw, what car were you in, blue?
