Blackpool to Silverstone, via Wales!?

Need to be at Silverstone early-ish on Sunday, so was thinking of heading South tomorrow, making the most of this weekends predicted weather and getting a mini-hoon and some photography ticked off, before a night at a reasonable campsite.

So I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for...
- Good roads anywhere between Blackpool and Brecon that head vaguely South, preferably ones which won't be full of police and tourists on a sunny Saturday.
- Somewhere towards South Wales for a nice campsite
- Photogenic & other notable spots worth a visit

I realise this is a pretty vague description, but I'm more interested in what people have to suggest from experience rather than the more popular 'beaten track'.
