LondonPeterborough Friday evening. A1(M) OK?

Hi all,

I live in the depths of North West London but am escaping the smog for the weekend. However I'm not sure if I fancy sitting in traffic all Friday evening (Don't like driving more then 3 hours).

Is the A1(M) section from London to Peterborough OK on a Friday late afternoon/early evening? It takes me 45 minutes during this time just to get from my house to the M25 usually so don't fancy a slow crawl for the rest of the journey.

The alternative is to head over to Bishops Stortford (M11) way Thursday and hopefully have a shorter drive to Peterborough from there on Friday after work.

I have no faith UK roads any more and barely use anything but my Oyster card hence my uncertainty.

I live near P'boro and have family in NW London so know that route quite well! A1 will be fine. However the section of A14 from between M11 & A1 on the other hand (in my experience) will be awful
