Off there for a week - visiting Mrs Beano's relatives and generally pootling around in a softy springy hire car (yeuch!!! ).

I know there's some great scenery up in the Blue Ridge and the Smokey Mountains.

Any good tips - roads not to be missed?

Hell yes. Any of the back roads are great, especially up in the mountains. NASCAR's finest learned how to drive (and I mean REALLY drive) on these roads.
