I am doing an on road advanced driving course on Friday 19th October and have a Day and a half afterwards to enjoy some quality driving time on some new and intereseting roads.

I am looking to spend the Saturday driving some routes in Wales with fun getting there and back. The general gist to me looks like I get to South Wales on Friday night and pick some nice route to Pembroke (early start may be necessary!) and then anticipate going north as far as I dare before heading back south towards Poole.

To make the best of my available time I would like advice as to which routes to take given the time of travel, time for travel and my fixed points. I have no additional specific requirements other than the need to find somewhere to kip overnight for which I'll wing it ... (I'll bring my tent if the weather is looking good lol smile)

My Fixed points Are:

Depart Southampton approx 18:00 Friday
Arrive Pembroke 13:00 Saturday, dep approx 14:00
Arrive Poole 13:00 Sunday

I'm guessing you'll be fairly worn out after a whole day course and it'll be dark pretty early, so there might not be too much fun to had on the first evening. I'd would have suggested staying overnight in Southampton and going for an early start, but that won't give you much time to get there on Saturday.

Instead, how about overnighting in Bristol or Chepstow - route: http://goo.gl/maps/n6pRK

Just some suggestions that include some good bits I know. I'm not too familiar with things West of Swansea though, so others may want to suggest improvements.

Thanks - I was just gonna go randomly but this fits the bill ... the date has changed but the route/days are the same. Looking forward to it ...

Well, first leg starts on Thursday evening. Does anyone know if I can get these routes to be navigable on my android phone ? I have the beemer sat nav as main guidance but the fine detail will be on the google map .. I doubt it but if it can be done it would be cool!

Keeping an eye on the weather too, I don't think it's looking too bad (showers showing) but is cooling off a bit ...
