Over the last few weeks I've done a no. of return drives from J12 M4 to Baker St. Getting there is good.. follow my nose for an hour or so.. pass Harrods.. a few wiggles & I'm there.

However, even using TomTom I cant find a similarly easy route back home. Today I ended up hitting the M4 by the Glaxo building - fine - but getting there took ages.. small roads..little high streets.. little shops...

Realise some one-way roads come into play getting there.. but any tips?

The TomTom has probably calculated a route that is in theory a minute or two short, but forgotten that traffic lights in London can make you stationary for 10 minutes.

I'd drive over to Edgeware Road, along Park Lane around Hyde Park Corner, onto Brompton Road (A4), Cromwell Road (A4) and continue past Hammersmith on the A4 until you come to Chiswick roundabout. Cross the roundabout and stay in the left lane to come off the A4 and onto the M4.

If you are going to Baker St I would use the A40 every time.
So M4/M25/A40 Marleborne Rd 2nd light turn right BAker St

Apart from 2 busses trying to turn me into a Lupo sandwich, it was great. Cheers.

Shush. Stop telling people about the M40/A40, we don't want more people using it!

(Seriously, yes, this is probably your best route in and out, although I can only vouch for the bit up to the Marylebone Road)

I've been pretty happy with the Harrods route, but next time I'll give it a go - thanks
