New England for PHer
Discussion
We are planning a summer trip to New England, picking hire car up at Boston Airport and travelling north to around Portland and going inland the New Hampshire, near Jackson, and then to Maine and the Acadia National Park then returning to Boston.
Any recommendations for "must travel" roads and also sights to see?
Never driven in the US before; any advice? I hear speed limits are tightly enforced, is this true of back roads as well?

We've been over 4 times in the last 10 years,
In Maine stick to Rte 1 it takes time but you get to see places.
If your stopping in Portland I can recommend the Portland Harbor Hotel http://www.portlandharborhotel.com/
and then just 30 seconds walk is a great bar http://www.grittys.com/portland.php
If you have time I'd consider a drive up to Lubec in Maine, empty roads and the chance of seeing black bears walking alongside the road. We stopped at here http://www.watersttavernandinn.com/ great place and the bar is excellent.
If your stopping in North Conway in New Hampshire I'd do north out of Conway towards Mt Washington and then up to Gorham and then left along Rte 2 to Rte 115 and then down to the Rte 302 and down to the Crawford Notch.
if you have any questions PM me as we know there area very well.
