Leamington Spa to Bath through the Cotswolds
Discussion
Hi All,
So I'm driving Mrs G down to Bath for the weekend in a hired Caterham. It's all part of the master plan into getting the necessary permission to get a Caterham in the garage...Anyway, can anyone recommend any decent roads that are fun for the journey, but also with good sights to see to keep the lady happy.
Your views and recommendations are greatly appreciated.

The A429 all the way down to Chippenham via Stow on the Wold/ Moreton in Marsh etc, then on the A4 into Bath, lovely road and good sights/villages to stop for tea and cake!So I'm driving Mrs G down to Bath for the weekend in a hired Caterham. Leamington-->Fosse Way-->over to Broadway on the back roads-->A44 Fish Hill-->A424-->Stow-->B 4068 past Swell, Naunton etc. (this road is beautiful and lightly used, suited to the Caterham) -->A436 to Andoversford-->A436, A435 to Cirencester-->A429, A433 to Tetbury-->A46 to Bath
Or from Stow go down the A424 to Burford-->Cirencester, though that may not be so good if you are going in August as the centre of Chipping Norton is closed and the east-west diversion takes you down the A424 to the A40.
A429 all the way is too busy on a weekend, it'll be full of bimbling tourists.

This is indeed an excellent route. After Andoversford where you turn onto the A435, we stopped at a fantasic pub for lunch called The Green Dragon Inn. It was recommended in my Michelin Guide and it certainly fulfilled expectations.Or from Stow go down the A424 to Burford-->Cirencester, though that may not be so good if you are going in August as the centre of Chipping Norton is closed and the east-west diversion takes you down the A424 to the A40.

On the way home, rather than route up the A46 we headed more North Easterly towards Chippenham, then north on the A429 through Malmesbury, before heading to Kemble where we headed off the beaten track through Ewen (serious money in this village - most houses had helicopters on the front lawn...) and then all back lanes to Cirencester. Brilliant!
