Can anybody tell me what the speed limit should be on this road is please? There are no signs showing a limit.

That bit 70mph for cars, in theory. Dual carriageway, no signage.

But I am guessing it isn't for some reason.

Street lighting and urban environment with no signs to indicate a different speed limit.

Street lights look to be less than 183 meters apart.

Does this trump dual carriageway then?

This is a separate spur road heading the opposite direction.

Yes, as far as I'm aware.
Unless signed otherwise.

It makes no difference, that's the start of the 30mph limit coming into that area and there's no other signs between that and the OP's link to say any different. If the limit was higher there'd be signs to say so. Dual carriageways aren't automatically a higher limit just because of their design.

I think you are misunderstanding. I have drawn you a map.

I am questioning the red arrow, you have linked to the blue arrow. I would never have seen the signs you are showing.

There's a 30 sign in the opposite carriageway near the end of your red arrow.

Where have you come from when you are on this stretch of road?

Further back from behind the red arrow (out of ikea).

OK fair enough, I didn't realise the section of road with the red arrow is two way, but if you came up from the opposite direction to which your arrow is pointing there's this 30mph sign as JM says.

And how do you get there?

What makes you think you aren't in a 30 limit where you start?

But I didn't, I came the way the arrow is pointing, therefore couldn't see the sign.

New map here.

I pulled out where the red right angle arrow is. The full blue dot indicates a speed camera and the blue circle before where I pulled out indicates a 30mph speed sign (which is tiny) link here http://goo.gl/maps/VYTEw

The red X marks where I was pictured by a mobile van doing 35mph.

S10GTA, you must have got to IKEA somehow so you were already in the 30mph zone. Being done for 35mph there is a bit harsh though.

This is true, but as it's going to court I wondered if I could use the lack of signs as a get out clause! smile

The highway code states and I'm paraphrasing..."If there are street lights and no signs to the contrary, a 30mph speed limit is in force".

So unfortunately I don't think you'll be getting out of that one.
