I had to help out some friends at short notice with their outside catering business at the Great Dorset Steam Fair this weekend so ended up driving down from Bristol.

Completely contrary to all expectations, I found the Sat Nav taking me down an utterly epic route. The B3081 is :cloudnine: up the top with acres and acres of view to get past the dawdlers and some amazing hairpins at the bottom.

Managed to strike lucky with minimal numbers of Sunday drivers in the way and fortuitous overtaking opportunities.

It was only 100 miles round trip from Bristol, too. Might end up an impromptu road trip route...

My route, is, then back up the A37...

Ah yes - a group of us were there recently, and the B3081 is tremendous fun.

Back up the A37 is a bit tedious though - better to head East past Chew Valley lake and back into town over Dundry.

Agree completely, normally cut through Chew Valley but needed to get back. It was predictably dull in a 'convoy' all the way up from Shepton though!
