I'm travelling from London to Keswick in the Lakes Friday afternoon taking the M1 then A1 then thinking of either taking the A59 then A65 or A684 accross the Yorks Dales or possibly A66??? Options options!! Not neccesarily looking for the quickest route. Main question is concerning roadworks/traffic....any advice appreciated. Am estimating approx 4-5 hours, is that about right?

Cheers

It can take me 5 hours just to get to Manchester, and then another 2 hours to get to the Lakes on a Friday!

Can possibly be done if you don't leave London until after 7pm though!

Shouldn't be too bad until you hit Leicester (at 3pm), Sheffield (at 4:30-5:00pm) and then the peak time traffic the rest of the way!

nope, it'll be crappy...

best bet, if you can is to leave london at 5am and drive with the accelerator in the 'on' position.

oh bollocks maybe I'll get the train. Whats the point of having a fun car if you can't drive it tho!

mate, seriously, driving is still the best way imho (that's why the traffic is so bad!!)

just choose your time carefully... go early and have a kip when u get there or leave late...

trains suck in a BIG way.

Why not drive and stop for a meal break at rush hour?

There are some really nice roads to cross from A1 to M6 side, so don't miss the chance.
