One of my favourite bits of road to drive is the westbound A66 at Bassenthwaite. This side of the dual carriageway uses what's left of the old single carriageway road and has good bends and some interesting camber changes and crests and presents a good driving challenge.

However, the offside lane of the carriageway has now been coned off for several months and a huge flashing sign erected saying "lane closed for safety reasons".

There's no sign of any work having been started there - does anyone know what's happening and why it's been coned off?

I reckon it's because WildCat & Co. have been a bit naughty along there.

Shame really, it was a nice road, but I still like the somewhat similar situation near Thirlmere (southbound) unless the killjoys have spoiled that one as well.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Heard on a traffic bulletin that the westbound carriageway was completely closed today.

Anyone know what they're doing?
