Hello all! Leaving good old Northern Ireland and going to the World Endurance at Silverstone this Easter and was looking for some tips about motorway driving over Bank Holidays.

Last year, the WEC didn't fall over Easter so I took the the M/A1 from Scotch Corner instead of the M6 because it looked like I'd hit Birmingham around the Friday afternoon rush hour if I took the M6 route.

What can I expect this year with it being Easter? Will all the motorways be car parks or does traffic flow quite well? Driving Silverstone-Cairnryan on the Bank Holiday Monday should be a 7ish hour drive. How much time would I need to account for traffic?

Loved last year's and can't wait to get back this year again!

It'll be gridlock. And when it isn't it'll be full of MLMs and dawdlers who aren't used to being on motorways. I pity you.

The ONY civilised way to access Silverstone is by helicopter. Get together with some chums to ease the cost.
Driving means going through hell beforehand & the enjoyment of the event tarnished knowing you have to face it all again to get home.

+1

The world and his wife will be on the motorway to somewhere over that weekend.

Brits, on average, can't drive properly on motorways for toffee. Constrained by a low motorway speed
limit, hopeless congestion and a lack of training, it's a nightmare.

I see no point in adding to it. How about staying home and watching it on TV
with a few beers and some mates ?

Sounds a lot more fun and a lot easier to me.

M6 J16 to J19 is currently hell on earth on a normal day with long term roadworks frequently an hour or more delay\standing traffic Northbound, that's only going to be worse over Easter. This sounds like the actual journey from hell....

Thanks for the advice all! Sounds like I'm going to have fun then.

Helicopter seems like an expensive option, may look into it for future years.

Think the Cairnryan-Penrith-Scotch Corner-M1 route may be the best of a bad bunch.

Staying at home at watching it on TV may be the best idea, but that's no fun is it?

Didn't realise it was over Easter until I'd booked it and tried to book the time off work and wondered why they were only taking 1 day's leave off me.
