I was coming to the first set today near nottingham/derby way and believe I was doing 60mph by pure accident when its 50mph. I know they don't flash but a lot of people go through at different speeds and after reading up online it says that they are not on 24/7 yet. It was around 2PM and not considered a peak time - will I be issued a speeding ticket? can people offer general advice as I'be only been driving two months.

Thanks

If there was a speed limit posted on the gantry and you were above it. Then there is a good chance.
Enjoy the wait to see if you get a NIP in the post.

No there wasn't but they have the temp speed signs at 50 mph on the side of the road as always

Indicated 60 is more like real world 57 (ish), so you're probably ok, I've seen plenty of people go through those way faster. I've even been told that the ones further North aren't on at all, and a colleague actually tested what we were told by going through the lot at about 80, no NIP. That was last year though.

Yeh the gantry signs above werent on and there was no road works - they have been there for ages. People do go through them a lot faster. it says they are used during peak times and with accidents - neither was this at 2pm today.

Yes the cameras on top of the gantrys do. I'm making reference to the yellow variable ones after doing some research. they have had the signs on the m1 for temp road signs for 50mph all the time but this was 2pm today and no speed signs on the gantrys or flashes.the yellow variable ones clock your reg etc think they are just used for peak times, congestion and accidents.

I need someone who knows the actual answer and when they are in use fully!

Sorry, my mistake - i forgot there were roadworks there

If it makes you feel any better, i've always gone through them at closer to 60 (indicated) than 50.
I always understood they had a little bit more leeway built into them than the usual 10%+2 due to the way they work (bends in the road meaning cars in one lane travelling less distance than cars in the other).

I haven't been on that section of the M1 for a very long time.
SPECS cameras don't flash. They don't need to because they measure average speed..
If you mean HADECS ( these little fcensoreds) they definitely do!
