M1 A50 M6 or M1 M6??

Travelling tonight london to liverpool leaving at 5pm. Which is best, M1 to derby, A50, back on M6? Or just good old M1, M6 toll, M6? Looks like theyre pretty similar if roads are empty, but i v much doubt that will be the case!
