How do you - are you supposed to - drive over one of these:

The width of a road cushion (I think that's what they're called) still allows the average car to straddle over it which means many don't slow down. My van is quite low and rather than risk scraping the sump, I always try to go over the bump with two wheels on/through it, however, as you can see in the image, this isn't always going to be easy.

Then there are three across the road:

Most drivers will straddle the middle one and sail through without any disruption to their driving comfort as they hug their cup of take-away coffee.

I straddle them, slowly, otherwise the sump of my Z4MC scrapes on it.

If I go any faster, or try to 2-wheel it, then I tend to come down on the side skirt.

Although about half of them around our way are cushions which have huge gouges out of them and potholes before & after; the other half are full-width humps, so you can't straddle them...and you cannot drive over them at the posted 20mph as they seem to have random approach angles.

I have the same problem with my Z4MC as it is on lowered suspension.

They are hateful things and sadly in the London Borough where my sister lives there are loads of them - I tend to just take my 3 Series daily if I go there!

No wonder there are so many SUVs over her way. laugh

Wider cars like SUVs can straddle them ok. Most smaller vehicles cannot. I slow right down for them and with no passengers, let the nearside ride over the centre of the hump as I don't want to risk damaging the inner shoulders of my tyres by failing to straddle them.
