What is your favourite motorway?

M6 North, J37 Kendal → J40 Penrith, for a wide variety of reasons
When I was nothing but a mobile snotty nose, we sat on the side of ‘The Calf’ a hill in the Yorkshire Dales, enjoying a cup of milky coffee from a Thermos and an egg sandwich, below us construction of the M6 was underway.

My father stated, ‘That’s the end of the North as we know it, (holiday makers) the world and his wife, will be coming soon” bit ironic considering we lived in Essex. However, he was not wrong.

M6 South ‘Shap’ has a decent downhill section, clear visibility on a good day, on which you can give the most asthmatic of old jalopies a damn good spanking to see their until now, unrealized top speed. Add to this the lack of junctions and bridges, not many hiding places for plod.

When all this excitement is done and dusted, you can stop at Tebay services for some good quality/tasty refreshments (some will argue its expensive) and what is probably the best view of any service station in the UK.
Oh, whereas our previous annual holidays were in the Yorkshire Dales, we now traveled to a place called Lochinver, before it was called NC500, for our annual holidays, bloody world and his wife!

M50 to Ross is a good call. The last unmolested motorway left? Shame it doesn't really go anywhere;)
I have a sentimental fondness for the stretch of A1 (not all of it motorway I know) between Peterborough and Doncaster, because in the days when I was regularly blatting between London and Yorkshire, it was the bit where I could be most confident of light traffic and the opportunity to make a bit of progress.

I saw the title and thought it was A motorway rather than a section of said motorway
M40 my favourite as the easiest to deal with and the average speed is quite high. However I only use the m1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 25, 40, 42 and 54 regularly.
Best section?......m4 between Reading and Maidenhead as its always quiet. OR m40 from Oxford south to Bicester for same reason. Weirdly I always try to hug the driving lane on the big bend to shorten the distance

we don't have any on the Isle of Wight
Every time I go on one its utter utter misery not to mention extremely dangerous as a significant portion of the users are unable to drive properly, safely and with respect for other motorists.
I therefore dont have a favourite and hope that I will never have to venture onto one again (unlikely)

This sounds a bit like an oxymoron.
I haven't lived in the UK for a while, but used to travel from Liverpool to London on a fairly regular occurrence and enjoyed getting off the M6, one of my least favourite motorways, along with M1, and getting onto the M5. For a British motorway, it is quite curvy, at least the portion from the M6 turn off to the M42. I did enjoy the M40 too, for being fairly lightly trafficked and for its relativity average high speed .

For scenery it's hard to beat the M6 Preston - Carlisle, and the A74(M) beyond to Hamilton, but these days I tend to miss most of that M6 section as I prefer to use the A1(M) to Scotch Corner and then the A66, as the A1(M) is delightfully newly expanded and free of smart motorway/variable gubbinses, rendering it one of my favourite motorways now from Doncaster up to Scotch Corner anyway.
Big shout out to the criminally under-rated M69 too, not for scenery but for easy, fast progress. And I agree with the many other M40 nominations, it's brill from the M25 to the A46.

- M6 - The section already discussed.
- M65 from Colne to Preston. Whenever I've used this there has been no traffic and no speed cameras.
- M5 from Bristol to Exeter. Set off from my home in West Yorkshire at the crack of dawn. Stop at Easton in Gordano services for breakfast, then continue on the M5 where, shortly after leaving the services, you traverse that interesting section where the carriageways run at different levels. Then, further on, run alongside the railway for a good distance. I recall back in the day hoping to see an HST or, if I was very lucky, a Class 50, when were were on our way to family holidays in Cornwall.
