Hi,

I have some time in Bilbao, San Sebastian and Biarittz in August.

What are the best driving roads in Northern Spain and the Pyrenees that I should aim to drive on?

Thanks,
Matt

I drove this route today from Canfranc to San Sebastian.

Le Somport
Arette
Isaba
Ezcaroz
Espinal
Saigots
Irurita
Arkiskil
Epela
San Sebastian.

Great roads. Some fast A road types and some more single track stuff. Good surfaces and a lot of climbs and descents.

Arette to Isaba was the highlight.

Probably too far east for you but I love the Port de la Bonaigua (C-28) and the N-260 towards Girona. Love the Pyrenees so also interested in great roads around the Basque Country.

I gather towns with 50,000 inhabitants - although some with only 20,000 - have low emission zones - did you research any of this, I am going with a group and some of their overnight stays may be in these towns and I need to find out what the boundaries are - my car meets Euro 3 standard. Many thanks

See this thread: Driving UK car in Spain - LEZ

I got a French Crit Air sticker which seems to be recognised nationally in Spain.

Pamplona to Pau (France) was great especially in the Spanish side. Could've easily turned around at the border to repeat it. On to Baquiera-Beret today from the Col du Tourmalet.
