A414 in Essex to have reduced limits NSL>50, 50>40 and average speed cameras because the odd loon biker has been stupid.

A road you can actually make progress on currently, and overtake those who don't want to easily and safely, now ruined by accounting for morons, so the dawdlers win.

Are you sure its the "loon bikers" and not the car drivers "making progress" that made the locals want a more sedate limit. rofl

its the bikers being stupid in the instances of the serious accidents in recent years. There's progress and then theres silly bllx

There are very few 'locals' in the NSL areas. Other than a few deer. Which again haven't been involved in any casualties, and hitting them at 40 vs 60ish isn't going to remedy.

Cheers, I normally always have a quick read of the bbc app including the Essex part of it so just surprised to have missed seeing anything. I use the route daily and would say the number of drivers bumbling along at 40 in a 60 puts more people at risk. Don’t get me wrong, seen plenty of dodgy overtakes as well but not when the traffic is traveling at 55-60.

Same everywhere. When the argument is "If it saves one life or one serious injury" they can pretty much do whatever they want, and do.

Looking at CrashMap there's about one fatality a year on that road. Doesn't seem any higher than many other similar roads tbh.

Accident prevention isn't just about reducing fatalities.

'Ruined' is probably a bit strong, but it is incredibly frustrating when stuck behind a car afraid to go more than 40mph with very few opportunities to overtake. Late evenings you can comfortably drive along most of it at the speed limit and have no cars in front or behind.

To be fair, if I lived in the 30mph stretch leaving the Four Wantz roundabout towards North Weald I'd be crying out for the 30mph to be greater enforced too. A lot of people fly through there, I stick to a solid 30mph as I've seen speed camera vans in the layby just before the 50mph starts again on more than one occasion.

The road surface is horrendous in a few places though -- undulating and broken up patches. Would be nice if that could be addressed!

yep i agree with the 30mph sections currently no one adheres ( i do), they should 100% be policed with a camera, yet then most don't speed up when they hot the 50 or nsl, 40 everywhere brigade are the bane of this road and this will be more so now

Well my wish seems to have been granted. It's closed overnight 8pm-5am on 01-14 August and looks like big chunks of it have already been nicely resurfaced.

Quite often it is the "loon bikers". They were certainly the culprit in my neck of the woods for bringing attention to the A272/A32 and subsequent speed restrictions plus average speed cameras on both.
The area had been a biker hub for years with Loomie's cafe at West Meon Hut (well before Caffiene & Machine bought the old pub there) and on a sunny weekend there would often be emergency services called out for accidents.
