Reims to Baden Baden and back
Discussion
Have had a new to me McLaren in the garage for a few weeks and am desperate to take it to France as soon as there’s an improvement in the weather. Will only have 4 nights so not going to be able to get too far so was planning on staying around Epernay/Reims mostly but there’s a great deal on a hotel I like in Baden Baden so would like to include that and have a go on the autobahn but if the drive over there is dull I’ll not bother.
Any suggestions for a good route that mostly avoids the auto-routes and any sights worth checking out on the way?

Don't know the area I'm afraid but why are you 'desperate to take it to France' if you don't know the area ?
Excellent contribution. You’re quite right. Best stay at home rather than think about exploring somewhere new. If it wasn’t for being able to drive in Europe I wouldn’t bother having a sports car.

There's some nice roads in the Vosges mountains which is close to Baden Baden. Worth considering for a short trip. Personally I'd take the Autoroutes to Metz and then find something more interesting.
I did exactly that a couple of years ago on my way to a trip to Ljubljana. The main point of this trip (other than enjoy some roads that aren’t congested and full of pot holes) is to visit some chateaux and champagne cellars that I’ve not been able to go to before because I’ve always been with my dog on previous trips to the area. The trip out to Baden Baden is a potential add-on as the cost for staying Brenners is a bargain for such a great hotel and I know the area around there has some decent roads, it’s just wether the 400km drive is going to be interesting enough. I’m thinking probably not.

I'm assuming the question was more "why specifically France/Reims". Generally speaking North and North-East France can be a bit boring. If your plan is to go Baden-Baden then there's a lot of good stuff North of there in Germany. I had a great week on my motorbike in the Rothaar mountains between Dortmund and Frankfurt a few years ago. If you're limited on time, an overnight ferry to Hoek would see in you Germany by late morning. If it wasn t for being able to drive in Europe I wouldn t bother having a sports car.
