It's ok, but I've seen better in the North.

Try the A685 Tebay to Brough road sometime. I like that much more.

Oh yes, great road, all the way to the A1 at Scotch corner. Almost no traffic even at 8.30am.

Another good one is the A686 from Penrith M6 to A69 just outside Hexham

I wouldn't really rate the A66 from Penrith to Scotch Corner. It's either dual c/w [ boring] or it's single c/w packed with lorries.

Nice views over Stainmore pass, however.

It hasn't got a road number that I know of, since it's a C road.

It runs north from Hawes to Thwaite in North Yorkshire.

If you are in the area, the Tan Hill pub just North of Keld is
superb.

Also the village of Dent, just south east of Sedbergh is
really good to.

Let's also not forget the cracking gated road south from
Dent to Ingleton.

Right - i see.

I know Hawes, and I also know Sedbergh.

Will have to go for a proper drive now that i know where it is.

Cheers.

you could also do hawes to ribblehead viaduct which, on a quiet week day is superb, busy at weekends with tourists and those over 55.

The last evo i saw had obviously done a car test, landmarks in the back ground being the obvious give away

Pately Bridge to Grassington is fantastic - some suspension travel is required though!

I agree, although getting 2 tons of Volvo (unintentionally) airborne along there a couple of years back wasn't a highlight! [although I'm quite proud of the achievement]

I did Ripon - Pateley Bridge - Grassington and back yesterday afternoon. Had a fantastic drive, barely saw another car. The everso slightly slippery conditions made it interesting as well. Is that route fairly near Butter Tubbs?

well not that far actually, you'd head up to kettlewell, starbotton and buckden then over the top to hawes

Live in Scotland, and although the weather absolutly mince at times, the roads when it dry's out are superb.

Staying as I do just North of Glasgow, some of the 'quieter' roads are most definatly trouser filling at the best of times , but whe you get them right they are just brilliant.

They are not really the fastest of roads, however I can top out my car on the 'Haul' road that join's up the A82, at Loch Lomond, with Coulport at Loch Long (I don't have a road name because I don't have a map handy).

Anyway its an old MOD private road, so the surfaces are smooth, but the camber of the road has been altered to suit heavy military convoys!...warning take note, going straight on at a bend is a very realistic possiblity!!!, however there is a long dip in the road where my wee Clio (Don't laugh im a student), can hit the rev limiter in 5th.

Also some of the roads spawning off from the 'Haul' road are demanding, and are great fun, so much so Top Gear filmed up here, showing an Impreza, and an Evo through the area.

Nice login name. And don't worry about being a student, we all had to start somewhere. Clios handle quite well if you know what to do with them.

In the summer is was great fun it gripped well in the corners which lets face, it is about all its going to do. Recently however greasy road sufaces older tyres, and slight hint of over-enthusiasm have ment im sliping and sliding everywhere
