M25 shut all day J6
Discussion
This is surely just unacceptable.
Yes a man broke his leg this morning, but the road at 10pm is STILL shut.

Why do accidents in the UK seem to result in roads being closed for so long compared with other?
Google lists all the obvious answers, but unless there was impassable damage to the road surface keeping the traffic there was cruel.Mind you, I recall a bit of an outcry in the US when, after a fatal on highway 101 in California, the car was shoved to the shoulder with the deceased still inside.

Not such a vital motorway as the M25, but near us the M53 was closed in both directions all day last Monday after a 3AM fatal.
To be fair it was a bit of an odd incident - single vehicle into the barrier then driver tried to cross the other carriageway and was killed - but keeping it closed both ways for the whole day seems OTT. But maybe there were “reasons”.
It did strike me as excessive, especially in current temperatures.
The worst closure I have had to endure so far was on the M4 Eastbound just after Membury services which lasted about 6 hours while accident investigators flew their drone over the scene. Luckily it was a comfortable temperature and dry.
But I did wonder why so much investigative effort had been wasted when I later read that it was a single vehicle collision involving an SUV that managed to hit the armco on both sides of the carriageway before ending up on it's side on the hard shoulder.

Was driving down the M1 recently and the road stopped and was closed. About 7pm at night. Was closed for about 2.5 hours. At one point tbe highways website was saying in wint re open till midnight.
It did open before that and whilst 3 ambulances had gone by when jt re opened therr were two or 3 cars with a decent amount of damage but not catastrophic, no spillages, no road damage. Wasnt even many police. Just the traffic wobbles that had decided to shut the entire thing. Seemed a massive overreaction.

The worst I have had was at J23 on the M1 maybe 8 years ago and being stuck there from 5pm until around midnight. It was a fatal accident and the motorway closed in both directions. They eventually opened up the central barrier to allow us to drive through and then back down the south side to J22 at midnight and you could see them resurfacing the road. The next day I drove past and it was only a small part of two lanes resurfaced. They are currently resurfacing big stretches of lanes between 24 and 25 overnight and they just have it down to one lane and 40/50mph. Surely they could have done the same in this instance too rather than completely block everything? I love driving in France where if there is a small amount of roadwork or a crash they just close the 50-100m worth of road required and everything flows nicely. It did open before that and whilst 3 ambulances had gone by when jt re opened therr were two or 3 cars with a decent amount of damage but not catastrophic, no spillages, no road damage. That is not an excuse, it can be managed better than that.
Throw some bags of sand over it, set a 40mph limit after it and let one lane of traffic though from the blockage whilst keeping the motorway closed behind it.
tty Chinesium ditchfinder tyres make contact with the oil under the sand, spinning the car into the workers and equipment trying to clear up the mess in the other two lanes....Gassing Station | Roads | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
