Looking for a nice route or some nice roads for North London to Newcastle, preferable that will stretch the legs of my Chimaera

From Bedford you can get the excellent B660 towards Peterborough and then the A15 north to the Humber Bridge.

Then you've the whole of Yorkshire to choose from.

For the latter part of the journey you nees decent A roads with out camera that'll head roughly north, so:
From Wetherby A1 take A59 to Harrogate, then B6165, right onto A61, all the way to Ripon, then A6108 (one of the best roads around here) all the way to Richmond.
From here head back to A1 for a few miles then take second exit after Scotch Corner, B6275 (old Roman Rd, Dere St, blind crests and lots of adjoining roads but fun) until you join A68.
Others may disagree but I would stay on this all the way to A695 then head east for Newcastle.
Have fun.

Once up north, I'd stay on the A68, but turn off onto the B6318 military road, thats always good for a giggle as well.
