Just in case the driver of the Rover that I carved up on the M25 this morning is reading, I'm very sorry.
I was cruising steadily in the car doing 70-odd between J5 and J4 in lane 1 when I came up to a Galaxy doing about 60 in lane 2. I checked mirror, indicated and pulled into lane 2. Another mirror check, waited for a car to pass, indicated again but missed the Rover in the blindspot. Eeek. Quite justifiably he let me know with main beams and horn.

But if the bl**dy numpty in the Galaxy hadn't been hogging the middle lane the situation would never have arisen.
Numpty probably never had an accident. Witnessed dozens.....

Be careful out there! As long as you learned from it.

What I often do though is give the middle lane hog a quick flash of main beam from the inside lane to alert them to the fact there's a faster car coming up on the left. Sometimes they get the message...

And sometimes they don't.

In which case I sometimes breeze past them on the inside.

I know..........

Nope, I applaud you Sir and do the same thing myself.

If enough people do it then the MLOC will be no more...

Matt.

read a post way back about adjusting your mirrors to an offset position, so you cannot see the side of your own car (unless you move your head a few inches0) but you can see the lanes either side of you clearly. Have been using this mirror setting for a few months now, and I can say that on more than one occasion I have spotted cars in the blindspot a lot sooner than normal, thus avoiding the situation described in this post.

I'm not being smug, but I always glance over my right shoulder after a mirror check, before pulling out to overtake. You can then see if there is a vehicle in the blind spot.

Quite right about a shoulder check. Not been out on the bike for a while, I must be getting lazy.
