A686 Haydon Bridge to Melmerby is a must. B6341 from Elsdon to Thropton is pretty good.

Soo many. Where abouts in the north east? Northumberland is huge !
Hartside Pass, Morpeth to Coldstream, A68 from Bishop Auckland to borders ( and beyond !), Rothbury to Otterburn, Newcastleton nr Kielder, Kielder forest, Hexham to Blanchland / Derwent Resevoir. All brill.

Dont know much south of Derwent Res.

If you are a bit further South in the North East there is a great road between Edmundbyers (just next to Derwentwater) and Egglestone. Goes across the Durham moores, pretty spectacular. Other than that I'd agree with all the above. You can drive forever up here!
