I recently used this road in both directions, and it is even better than Snake Pass - very light traffic, mostly good surface, and it goes up and down like a roller coaster, with tight hairpins, 90 degree bends, fast sweepers, great sight lines, and great scenery of the Peak District. It would make a good run with the A537 cat and Fiddle road (but watch for scameras!), and the A523. Recommended!

In the same area, the A5004 is well worth a look. Using the same Cat and Fiddle section of the A537, there is a fun loop with the B5470, A5004 and A537. The B5470 is not the best (in comparison), but it does a good job of connecting the other two into a “lap” but the A5004 from Horwich End to Buxton is definitely a favourite of mine in the area. The A537, A54, A523 loop is just the opposite side of the Cat and Fiddle thumbup

A54 is great. I will give the ones in the second post a go too, thanks.

Yep, I've done the Cat and Fiddle from Macclesfield then turned onto the A54 a few times, it's a nice run. Not many roads have quite so many crests as the fast section at the start of the A54!

The run up to Hawes from Ingleton via Ribblehead viaduct is awesome with not a scamera in sight......

True and even I managed a decent snap of the car with the Ribblehead Viaduct as a background
