Just arrived back today 5am and still no sleep! Drove up the mountain with hairpins, also found a road on the map with 10 more so had to seek that one out. No side railings, white lines, nothing! What fun.
Now here's the sad part..... was in a Suzuki Jimny!
Never mind, it was still great fun.

Got back from Corfu about 3 weeks ago - the coastal roads are good but full of traffic around the Northern part - I've not driven the South end of the island. The mountain roads up to Pantokrator are seriously bendy, seriously narrow and eventually give way to loose roadstone with no barriers. Not for the faint hearted!.
Anyone try parking in Corfu town? If you live there, I'm sure you leave your front door open, you'll come home to find a car and two scooters parked on your landing!

Had a big moment there in 2004 driving a rental Suzuki Jimny, travelling south on the main road near Gardelades. Doing about 50mph, unseen right hand haipin. Cue emergency trail braking followed by half a turn of opposite lock. According to my other half, the look on the Greek driver's face coming the other way in the tipper truck was pure shock horror.
Or back in 2005, the nightime tussle I enjoyed with one of the staff members from Agni Taverna who shall remain nameless, along the coastal road up to Kassiopi. The squealing tyres on my hired Renault Twingo must have been heard in Sarande across the Corfu Channel.
Word of warning about Corfu roads - a sudden downpour after a hot, dry spell can turn the road surface as slippery as ice when there are olive trees growing in the verge, having dropped their oily fruits onto the tarmac.

I drove a lot of the roads last year in a rented Vitara which was the 2nd worst car i've ever driven. I also drove an old VW Polo which was the worst car i've ever driven. It wasn't the cars as such, just that they had been abused and shockingly maintained. Didn't find much fun in the roads to be hinest because driving a hairpin road with steering that powered against your inputs rather than assisting you meant you had to go s l o w. I did rent a quad bike and explore the whole island though. Went up two mountains in the south with gravel hairpin tracks, and then did Pantokrator in the north. I will remember that ascent for the rest of my life - one of the best roads I have ever driven. Had to be a quad bike/real bike though - I think it was a tad too narrow to exploit fully in a car.

There's certainly a few hair-raising drops off the mountain side going up to Pantokrator (several hundered metres in places)

Fantastic taverna, O'Foros, in Old Perithia village at the summit is well worth a visit.
